The following is the transcript of a letter, sent from Fairfield Community High School District #255 Superintendent David Savage, to the parents of all FCHS students.
FROM: Mr. David Savage, Superintendent
DATE: August 24, 2012
SUBJECT: Status of Adequate Yearly Progress
Fairfield Community High School District #225 is committed to providing a high-quality educational program for your child. We are working hard to provide programs to help all students succeed in our school district.
Your child attends Fairfield Community High School which receives federal Title I funds to provide additional opportunities for your child to meet state achievement standards. Receipt of this federal money is tied to making adequate yearly progress (AYP) under the No Child Left Behind legislation passed by Congress in 2001. In the 2012-13 school year, FCHS achieved the escalating AYP targets in attendance and graduation. We made significant progress and attained the Safe Harbor standards in math and reading. However, our school did not make the overall AYP targets in math and reading.
Since FCHS did not achieve AYP, we are currently in "Choice" status which means that your child is eligible for public school choice. However, the adjoining districts to Fairfield Community High School have not made AYP and do not qualify for transfer students under the Choice Program or they are unwilling to accept students from their adjoining districts. Therefore, we do not have an additional option for you and your child for this school year.
If you have any questions regarding this legislation, feel free to contact me at the district office.
David Savage, Superintendent of FCHS
